The Transport Museum

Hanbury Hall

The Hall, with its famous wall paintings by Sir James Thornhill, is set within 20 acres of garden and 393 acres of park. The building of the Hall was started in 1701 by Thomas Vernon who made his name practising law in London. It is a beautiful example of a William and Mary-style house built in the warm local red brick. Inside marvel at the rare Axminster carpet that has returned to Hanbury Hall after many years and, upstairs, admire the recently redecorated Hercules rooms.
