Located in a listed and former Mill, the Needle Museum houses original water powered machinery and provides a vivid illustration of how needles were once made. On the same site are the ruins of Bordesley Abbey built in 1140, a medieval Cistercian Abbey, which has been extensively excavated. The Visitor Centre puts on exhibitions and events including workshops, family days, outdoor theatre and talks.
The area has numerous leisure facilities, including a national standard BMX track, municipal golf course, sports centres and the architecturally renowned Edwardian and modernised Palace Theatre. Redditch is well served with open space having two Green Flag award winning parks, Morton Stanley and Arrow Valley Country Park, both just a few miles from the town centre. Arrow Valley Park extends over 2.5 miles, providing a host of leisure and recreational opportunities including sailing on its 29 acre lake, walking, via 4-way marked trails, a play area, and a Visitor Centre.
The River Arrow itself meanders through the park providing excellent wildlife habitat.
